CONDITIONS AND ALERTS REPORTING

Riders can now report trail conditions and safety issues while out on the trail or after returning home from within the NY snowmobile web map suite of tools.

It is important to know that these are rider-reported trail conditions and alerts. This is subjective information based entirely on the rider's current mood and experience on that particular trail segment.

Mohawk Valley GIS reserves the right to revoke Premium Account access for anyone abusing this reporting feature. The database will be monitored on a daily basis.

You can view the reported conditions in the web map for the most recent 36-hour window.

MOBILE VERSION

From any model smart phone, with Premium Account access, you can run our new browser-based NYSnowCon app. You will need reception.

This is not a true app but rather a program that runs within your phone's browser. It is found at http://geoserving.net/NYSnowCon.

It is very simple to use.
* Enable your phone's GPS
* Start NYSnowCon
* Log in

Reporting trail conditions

* tap Conditions Reporting
* tap excellent, good or poor
* tap submit

Reporting alerts

* tap Alerts Reporting
* tap High/Safety Alert or Low/Needs Attention
* enter a comment
* tap submit

* Log out

The software automatically determines your location for you and displays your accuracy.

If you forget to turn on GPS tracking, your accuracy will be way off.

Remember to turn off GPS tracking when done, as this is a real battery hog.

VIEWING ALERTS

With Premium Account access, you can view rider provided safety alerts while out on the trail.

Within the NYSnowCon mobile version, with reception, you can view reported alerts within the last 36 hours. This could be a bridge out, trail closed, missing stop sign at road crossing, anything someone felt other riders should know about.

Please note this is rider provided information only. Please use common sense when out on the trails and be alert at all times for unexpected obstacles or unsafe conditions.

Our Disclaimer:

Please remember that snowmobiling is primarily an off-road activity that occurs in an unpredictable and uncontrollable natural setting. The conditions reported on a trail by riders like you depend on many variables, including weather at the time and traffic on the trail. Realize that the actual conditions you experience can easily be different from its posted conditions within just a short period of time.
